MINERALS
Minerals role in the Chihuahuas’ body are very important. Minerals must be
provided in the Chihuahuas’ diet they can not be manufactured by the body. Minerals
are usually interdependent upon each other in order for them to be utilized properly.
Some of the functions of minerals are:
1. Serve as structural elements
2. Serve as activators
3. Serve as regulators
4. Helps control movement of other nutrients through cellular walls
5. When paired with another mineral they together will help maintain the body’s
acid-base balance.
Minerals are divided into two categories: Macro minerals and Micro minerals.
Macro minerals (Major minerals) are:
1. Calcium
2. Phosphorus
3. Sodium
4. Chlorine
5. Potassium
6. Magnesium
Micro minerals (Trace minerals) are:
1. Iron
2. Copper
3. Cobalt
4. Zinc
5. Iodine
6. Manganese
7. Selenium
One of the most important functions of minerals for the Chihuahua is their
maintaining of the proper calcium/phosphorus balance. It is easier for you the
owner to look at the minerals as a single entity and if one mineral is
inadequate or if there are an imbalance of the minerals do not even consider that
feed to be given to your Chihuahua.
Here is one of the best charts I have seen that shows the interrelationships of
the Minerals by:
