What is a Teacup
Chihuahua?
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A TEACUP CHIHUAHUA!
Chihuahuas are listed in the American Kennel Club breed standard as belonging to the Toy
category.
The Chihuahuas are Classified as
two varieties: Long-coat & Smooth-coat.
These two varieties are to be the
exact same except for the coat length.
Male Chihuahua's will usually tend to average about 6-9 inches tall while female Chihuahua's
will tend to average usually around 6-8 inches tall.
The Chihuahua's should normally weigh between 3 to 6 pounds but many Chihuahuas
go up to 10 -12 pounds or larger. Some will be under the 3 pounds.
It is these undersized "runts" that are used by some unscrupulous breeders and then using
some cutesy phrase as a selling ploy  Some of these cutesy phrases are: Teacup
Chihuahuas. Miniature Chihuahuas. Pocket Chihuahuas. Standard Chihuahuas. These
unscrupulous breeders will charge exorbitant prices for these undersized puppies.
For showing purposes and according to the A.K.C., breed standard.
There is only ONE Chihuahua breed. They do come in the two coat varieties but not in
different weight categories.  Whatever their weight, they are simply called a Chihuahua.
I do
NOT recommend a Chihuahua under 3 or 4 pounds. These small Chihuahua's can be at
a greater risk at developing health problems if they survive at all.
Some of these added risks come about because these small Chihuahua's internal organs are
often weak and will not be able to sustain their lives for the normally long life that most healthy
Chihuahua's are able to reach.
Don't be taken by these irresponsible and  unscrupulous breeders.
Stick with Chihuahua's who will mature at 4 pounds and up (these will normally weigh at least
2-3 pounds at 10-12 weeks old.
You should never buy a Chihuahua before they reach 10-12 weeks old!!!!)
And don't pay such ridiculous prices for any Chihuahua!!!

A Chihuahua is a Chihuahua!!.
Some of these advertised Teacup Chihuahua's  will not all turn out to be so small when they
are full grown.
